The Gifts of the Nile - Part II

The 8 Gifts of the Nile
1. Read the Informational article about the gifts of the Nile.



Now that you have read about the 8 Gifts of the Nile it is your job to plot them on a map.

Step 1: Use the graphic organizer to record each of the gifts and to write a brief summary.
Create a symbol for each gift.

1. Gift of Agriculture           
2. Gift of Pastureland
3. Gift of Fish & Game
4. Gift of Drinking Water
5. Gift of Papyrus
6. Gift of Transportation & Trade
7. Gift of Building Materials
8. Gift of the Arts

Step 2: Use pencil to draw your symbol on the map along the Nile river. Then darken it with pen.
Step 3: Label each symbol with Pen
Step 4: Color ALL the water blue
  • Mediterranean Sea
  • Nile River
  • Gulf of Suez
  • Red Sea

Step 5: Color the Fertile Soil around the Nile River Green.

Step 6: Color the Dessert yellow.

Fun Fact****That green line cutting through the dessert is not the Nile!!!! That green line is the Fertile soil that lays on either side of the river!***
How is this similar to Mesopotamia and the Fertile Crescent?

How might this help protect ancient Egypt from invaders?
This is the Nile River delta. What is the meaning of the word Delta?
Describe what the soil would have been like.
Cairo has always been an important city. It is the capital of Egypt. In addition the ancient pyramids, known as the Great Pyramids of Giza were build near Cairo.
 Look closely. Those little blue lines are the actual river!


 Locate Cairo on the map. Then locate the Great Pyramids of Giza. Notice how close they are to each other.

Mesopotamia Review Day

All sixth graders should be very proud of the work we have done regarding Mesopotamia. We will be taking our test about Ancient Mesopotamia and the Fertile Crescent on Thursday. Today will be a day for us to review as a whole group, as well as in small groups. In addition, I have prepared a small review packet to help you study, and I have attached the Crash Course video here for you to watch again.
